John Scott is definitely in my list of top 10 film score composers. I only wish he had a larger number of scores and I wish he had more opportunity to score more mainstream film projects.

Great composer! I especially liked his 80's and 90's output. :)

I think you'll find that there are a lot of fans of John Scott's work. He is certainly one of my favorites and I'm always glad to see one of his scores released.

Since hearing The Final Countdown. Listened to some John Scott music earlier today.

Although I've enjoyed some of his music for years (namely GREYSTOKE, KING KONG LIVES and MAN ON FIRE via my old LP's) it was only recently that I realised I didn't own ANY of his scores on CD. It was actually Intrada's recent KING KONG LIVES release that started the ball rolling.
I haven't seen many of the films he has scored, which didn't help matters, and I was busy buying many other composers during the 80's and 90's and kind of let him pass me by.
It's only been recently, with the dearth of good scores being written these days, that I have ventured back on the path of John Scott, hoovering up older releases by him and getting to hear scores how they should be written and performed!
It's been a real joy to hear things like ANTONY & CLEOPATRA, SHOGUN MAYEDA, RUBY, A STUDY IN TERROR, YOR and LIONHEART for the first time! I can't stop playing that main theme from LIONHEART (or get it out of my head!)
I have many other CD's just waiting to be unwrapped and listened to (THE DECEIVERS, FINAL COUNTDOWN, RED KING WHITE KNIGHT, KING OF THE WIND, NORTHSTAR to name a few) so the coming months are going to be full of John Scott goodness for me.
He is just as good as JW for memorable themes and JG for adrenaline-filled kick-ass action music.

I agree with you guys about Lionheart. It's quite an eclectic score with an unforgettable main theme.

I have almost every John Scott CD and can easily say that he produced among the most consistently enjoyable music as an album of all the composers I know. He's shown that just about any type of film can be served well by music that happens to sound great on its own.

My most recent purchase of his work was North Dallas Forty, which is loaded with amazing rhythms and melodies. "Pre-Game Tensions" immediately comes to mind as one of the most infectious rhythmic tracks out there.

Of his unreleased work, I would love to see Doomwatch and Billy Two Hats become albums.

We're fans here, too. We met John in the Lionheart/Shogun Mayeda/Ruby/Red King White Knight era. Interestingly, back then it was his then-unreleased score for Shoot To Kill that we kept getting requests for - a CD that didn't happen until our relationship with Disney began flourishing a couple of years ago.

Shoot to Kill happens to be one of my favorite scores that Intrada has ever released. I knew nothing about it so I was just blown away when I listened to it. Thanks for making that one a priority from the Disney vaults, Doug, and I look forward to any more John Scott you can dig up (including expansions of existing releases, whether they be on the Intrada label or not).

I recently lucked out by finding a few of the JOS scores for dirt cheap, the eight minute suite from Outback on John Scott Conducts His Own Favorite Film Scores is something else. Unlike anything I've ever listened to before.

I think you'll find that there are a lot of John Scott fans around these parts. He is one of the most consistently satisfying composers out there.

I like all of the scores I have by him, but I think my favorite is Antony & Cleopatra. That dizzying love theme is just irresistible (which actually makes it perfect for the subject matter as well).

I'd love to see a re-issue of Mountbatten:The Last Viceroy, but I guess that's all tied up with Varese.

Speaking of Shogun Mayeda, that one would definitely deserve to be available again too.

I keep hearing people mention his early 70's western score for BILLY TWO HATS.
I've never heard this music, but I love western scores, I generally like 70's scores and I am really enjoying John Scott scores at the moment so this one should be right up my street.
Hope someone is dusting it off as I write :)
