The worship of certain composers over & over again is no different than the patronage of certain establishments over & over again. One person may prefer a Goldsmith score and another may prefer shopping at Wal-Mart, for example.
Just as a business offers a service/price that consumers want in more quantity, likewise a composer, like Horner, offers scores/variety, that more score fans want than others.
Sure, just as a person may shop Wal-Mart because it has lowers prices, in general, there are score fans who have a limited window of composers they may sample.
But believe me, more score fans than you think, sample more composers than even you or I know.
For every person that can name Basil Poledouris, another may name Max Steiner. For every person who names Max Steiner, there may be somebody who names George Auric.
I, for example, will take time to hunt down a film scored by a composer I don't know, on Youtube, just to hear the composer's work. Just this passed week I sample one composer whom only has one film to his credit, and another whom only has two.
It just happens that Melle isn't in high demand, and since some of his scores are recorded in Canada and have high fees to pay, he's essentially a luxury import item. Intrada took a chance on him, and since the discontiuation was so soon, I would guess they got burned. Just like Kritzerland took a chance on a Billy Goldenberg film score, and it's not sold quite as well as he had hoped (clamored for scores are exemptions, like "Columbo" works).
