I trimmed down the playing time a bit by removing the tracks that weren't scored by Ron Goodwin (the Strauss waltzes, Sousa march, Delibes mazurka, etc.) and it makes an even better listening experience. It's a more consistent grand comedy score and less cartoonish in its presentation this way.

Normally I'm not partial to either source music or comedy scores but THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN is ... magnificent! The segue from the mono "pit orchestra" to the the stereo main title is indeed "exhilarating" as Doug says in the liner notes. I'm old enough to have seen the film on release and while no classic it was good fun. The main theme is irresistible and the whole score is just infectious. I wouldn't trim a second of it for listening pleasure. Ron Goodwin is my 2nd favourite composer behind Goldsmith, and I'll buy any film score recording of his. Many thanks to Intrada for releasing this gem -- Intrada's best release this year after THE GREAT ESCAPE.

GREAT! WELL DONE, INTRADA!

Haven't listened to my copy yet. Waiting for the weather to warm up a bit so I can sit outside in the evening with a cup of coffee and enjoy it on headphones. I tend to do most of my listening these days during the warm weather months... Summertime and the livin' is easy, fishies are jumpin' and the cotton is high and all that good stuff.

I don't agree with "trimming it down" as a previous poster said, afterall, it is Ron Goodwin incorporating the marches, waltzes and such into his original score.

Listening to it now...

Beats the hell out of the LP presentation. Although I do sort of miss the James Robertson Justice opening narration.
