Just to follow up my earlier, skimpy post: my dad never bought me any soundtracks or even had any (the only film music related album in any of the places I lived, until I started buying 'em/having relatives living overseas get some for me, was my big sister's copy of the Jackson 5 album with the title song from Ben), and he got annoyed when I took out BDS$40 from my account to get one of the Bridgetown record shops to order Rambo III on cassette for me - my very first Goldsmith album, at the tender age of 18.* That said, he didn't go out of my way to discourage it either; but the only time I ever heard him comment on any kind of film music was when he mentioned the opening of The Last of the Mohicans - he said he liked it because it really set the mood of the open spaces.
My mum was/is the caring one in the family

, but while she said she liked the stuff I played she was never really interested either, except for Titanic (she asked me to get her the soundtrack album for her birthday, which I did - ironically, I've never bought it for myself although I loved the film both times I saw it).
*Yes, I made sure to get the complete version as well eventually, as I did with the other two in the series!
