Original CAPRICORN ONE album reissued

reissued the original Capricorn One album recording. It's a very welcome news, as the original LP program is a quite different listening experience from the original film tracks (lovingly restored and issued by our folks at Intrada a few years ago). I think it's one of Jerry's best album re-recordings and it contains one of his greatest action setpieces ever ("Breakout").

The interesting thing of this recording, as Jeff Bond cleverly pointed out in an old FSM article, is that it seemed to mark a change of style in Jerry's writing, as the film recording is still done in Goldsmith's spare, dry style of the late 60s/early70s, while the album recording contains the first strains of a more lush, opulent sound that characterized his post-1978 scores (such as STAR TREK: TMP, OUTLAND, THE FINAL CONFLICT, NIGHT CROSSING etc). Very interesting.

Since Collectors' Choice disappointed me so much with the reissue of Witches of Eastwick (when launching the CD it had a tac tac tac sound all over a track and they simply refused to change my defective CD), I'm no longer buying their products...

Yeah, I own the GNP Crescendo album (coupled with Outland, so I have no need to purchase this new release, but even for those who own Intrada's first class release of the original tracks, Goldsmith's re-recording is worth seeking out, and if you don't have any previous release, this might be a welcome addition to your collection.

I found the re-recording vastly inferior. Sold it and don't miss it. Intrada worked a miracle releasing that one.

Another warning about Collector's Choice. Whatever you get from them, be prepared to accept it and move on.

I must be a lucky one, about Witches of Eastwick. I ordered the reissue (I have the original CD but was looking for "remastered sound" and the liners notes by Jeff Bond). I received my package, and there was this hiddous sound problem on one track. I wrote an email, claiming for another copy. I did receive one, second pressing, that was problemless...

I can't find the topic we got here about it. The difference beetwen first pressing and second pressing (this one flawless) is a different code under the disc, in the silver circle.
The good version has got a "R2" code.

After that, I never trusted again CC...

Owning the GNP Crescendo release of Goldsmith's rerecordings, I won't miss this new release.

You know what, collecting since 1992, I would add that Intrada is the greatest label ever ! They really care about us... (I like FSM too but I do prefer the variety of Intrada releases). Yes, for me, Intrada rules.
