lima,
During the ancient era of deluxe laser disc (LD) editions, Pioneer released a Special Edition of "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" -- with the entire score mixed in glorious stereo on the standard viewing track with dialogue, etc. The "Stereo Restoration" is credited in the liner notes to Joseph Caporiccio, Michael Matessino, and Tom Long of Chace Productions.
AND -- the entire score is isolated on one of the audio tracks in mono.
It's a great way to experience the score -- watching the silent images with Herrmann's grand music just soaring on its own.
The sound on the isolated track on the LD, though mono, is quite good.
It's one of the reasons that several LD's are still "collectible" -- a few with isolated Herrmann scores.
It seems that recent DVD and bluray releases are returning to this old LD concept of isolated scores -- which is just great.
