INTRADA Announces:
THE EXPLORERS: A CENTURY OF DISCOVERY
Composed and Conducted by LEE HOLDRIDGE
INTRADA Signature Edition ISE 1019
Intrada's third release of the music from National Geographic Specials features Lee Holdridge's score to Explorers: A Century of Discovery. Produced in 1988, the special honored the centennial of the National Geographic Society, highlighting nearly two dozen scientists and explorers. Holdridge's score includes a dazzling range of styles: a bold, brassy fanfare; pounding action music; subtle, atmospheric, passages with exotic instruments; jaunty syncopation; ethereal, electronically-flavored tonalities, and...Wizards and Warriors. The filmmakers were so enamored with that theme, that Holdridge used it for the opening montage. Holdridge was not new to scoring documentaries or working on NGS specials, having scored several specials for NGS, including The Great Wales, Gold!, and The Sharks. "I approach documentaries as if they are dramas," says Holdridge. "I'm helping convey the story and the emotions, pulling the viewer deeper into the story. You have to put your feelings into the film." The result -- an epic score that is bold, beautiful, varied and perfectly suited to the theme Alexander Graham Bell had for the National Geographic Society itselt, to represent "the world and all that is in it." Lee Holdridge won an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music, News, and Documentary in 1988. This CDs also presents Holdridge's 1980s revisiting of the famous National Geographic theme, in full stereo!
This release is limited to 1000 copies in the Intrada Signature Series.
