Intrada strikes back??

A lot of people over at FSM seem to look at the Superman Box-set as the pinnacle of the 2008 film music releases. And even though I recognize the release as a marvelous one (I ordered an autographed copy), I do think this is just the beginning. Intrada has promised great things for 2008, and the Varése Club releases are coming in just two days.
I'm sure Intrada has many surprises that might just surpass the Superman craze. Intrada will strike back!!

What is better? A single multi-score box set, say 5 at once, or a string or 5 stellar releases?
A box set may feature a hardcover book, which looks extremeley, but 5 individual booklets can feature the same quality of notes.
In other words, it's not that simple a comparison.

The last few weeks of last year alone made Intrada the label of the year, with a series of scores manye people wanted, hardly anyone believe could be released, and one of the Big Ones.

I'm sure Varèse has several major scores ready for Monday, with two 2CD releases (I doubt they would release 7 single Club CDs at once).

It is too early to judge pinnacles as it is only February...
but if you wish to compare big releases thus far...

I think this topic is very absurd and honestly mean spirited. First off no matter what Varese, FSM or Intrada releases they are all good companies and their goal is not to try to out do each other on the best release anyone can muster but to deliver the best soundtrack scores possible to those like us who want them. In Fact for the most part I think these companies need each other and are all in the same boat. We should embrace the releases that we do get and hope for more. Not start a war on who is the best at what releases are coming out or on their way.

Yup.
A more direct way than mine.

To some extent, there must be some sort of rivalry between the labels, albeit in a friendly way; each naturally vies for the best release, to appeal to the most buyers, to get the most surprising and sought after score, ..., and it's natural.

Fortunately, as far we know, it's not an all-out war, and they all collaborate together in some ways, with one letting another grab such score while they get another, one producer writing notes for another label, producers doing work for several labels and for their own, ...

A major point is that they tend to have specialties, which help make things smoother: FSM is Golden & Silver Age, Intrada has a broader scope but also features some composers regularly, La-La Land does horror, science fiction, and a bit of other things, ...

Whoever wins by putting out the most great releases, we win because they are made available to us, and the label earns some more prestige, but nobody loses and that's the good thing: the other labels are in no way idle, and are not ruined by another's success and prestige award.
It may help call the attention of certain studios onto their capabilities, and make some releases possible, but I don't take these "Label of the Year" awards too seriously; they are a form of acknowledgement, but it's all symbolical, and certainly not an issue for me; they don't influence my opinion and buying decisions, and some factors are beyond our knowledge and anyone's control: such score would have gotten a different but equally great treatment by another label if they had been the lucky ones to find the elusive masters or to strike an agreement first, and labels even help one another.
I don't remember exactly, but I think the masters for one of last year's releases by Intrada were actually found by Lukas Kendall, or by both Doug/Roger and Lukas, and they agreed that Intrada would be the one to release it; in such a case, either one could have produced the release, with equally excellent results, and both deserve congratulations.

I will in no way pooh-pooh the Blue box. It took me more than an hour to place my order Thursday afternoon! :lol:

But, essentially....the original score is the MAIN thing I want. And I want the book. It's nice to get some of the other stuff, including Ron Jones music. Not so much any of the execrable Giorgio Moroder noise.

It's great to have this comprehensive box with the book that I'm probably looking more forward to than anything.
