I'm still reeling. One thing that I am really happy about is that this is not a limited release. I hope this thing makes Intrada wheelbarrows of money, and that they'll be able to keep this peerless jewel in print for a long, long time to come. I can't imagine any serious film music collector anywhere in the world who isn't going to want this...

I have the original album, the 15 minutes contained in the box, and the FREUD album.

Please , tell me what new treats await me in this ultimate edition!

You can actually hear a lot of this stuff on the isolated score track of the DVD, BUT (und ziss iss a BIG BUT) the sound quality is only so-so, and you are not getting this sensational re-mastering, all the alternate/unused takes, a cleaned up version of the LP, and from the sound of it, enough documentation, discussion and analysis to keep you well occupied for a looooooong time...

Okay, time for a negative comment to balance it all: how can you possibly do any better now, unless by releasing the other legendary most requested scores ever (you know 'em)? You've painted yourselves in a corner! Maybe you should have just burnt it all so that it could have remained a truly mythical holy grail. :\

I can't think of anything truly negative-- well, yes, I can think of something, but it's not a reproach, it's a regret; it's a sad thing Jerry Goldsmith cannot see this: he may not have wished every note of all of his scores released, but I guess he would have been honored, proud and happy that the brilliant music he had so much toiled on, only to see it mangled, be finally treated with all the respect due.


I usually play one, two samples at most, then patiently wait for the CD itself to hear the music in the best conditions, unless it's an exceptional release, in which case I may listen to some more samples; this time, I have just finished playing everything.

The Mozart was recorded for the film. The Hanson was taken from an existing lp.
