I'm very much surprised to hear you complain. In any given time there's good and bad music. However the bad is mostly forgotten, leaving the good to be remembered. At present, there's a lot of good horror music for us to enjoy.
Christopher Young's "The Grudge" and "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" ranking at the top, but also John Frizzell has done a couple of very interesting horror scores in the last few years. Not to forget Marco Beltrami's "Underground Evolution" score, and Angelo Badalamenti's music for "Dark Water", or the truly unnerving music by Climax Golden Twins for "Session 9".
Just to name a few that come to mind, with out any effort. If I would sit down and start to think seriously about it, I'm sure I could come up with a dozen more.
p.s.
Pfffff, almost forgot David Julyan music for "The Descent". If still any of you are in doubt about the recent quality of horror music, go listen to the soundtrack, it's a rare masterpiece.
