It´s nice to see some admirers of the work of Melle and Goldenberg to see on this forum.

Goldenberg has also a CD from Around the World in 80 Days, but this is a rather uninteresting score compared to his work of the 70s. I think he also worked for the National-Geographic-Series. He composed The Incredible Human Machine, which some people described as an amazing work.

As for Melle: There is nearly nothing on CD available. Even his experimental Jazz-LPs aren´t out on CD. I think all you can get, are his recordings for Blue Note from the 50s. It´s truly a shame.

When it comes to Melle the most requested score seems to be FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY. I like it, too. But the one that really got me going was an obscure 1974 picture called THE SAVAGE IS LOOSE. If it happens your way, catch it. George C. Scott: his family is stranded on an island. The sequence where his son grows up, becomes a threat gets truly powerful music.

Did you know if there are still master tapes for The Savage is Loose outthere? If I remember right, this was an independent production.

Is there not a little, tiny chance for a small Melle-CD from Intrada?

It´s strange but I believe you are the first record producer who even mentioned his name on a board.

BTW: Another great score from Melle is The Sentinel. Wonderful music for a strange movie from Michael Winner. Too bad that this is, like so many important works by Goldenberg and Melle an Universal production.

Gil Melle's BORDERLINE might sell well if Charles Bronson's face would be big on the front cover. I'd buy it definitely.

Has anyone heard Gil Melle's score for The Last Chase?

It's an obscure little sci-fi film that starred Lee Major's and Burgess Meredith from the 1980's. It took me forever to hunt down a VHS of the movie and took me even longer to get a copy of the score.

If your a Melle fan, I highly recommend this score.

As for other obscure composers, I have always wanted Phil Davies and Mark Ryder's score for Trancers. Or Jan A.P. Kaczmarek's Doppelganger.

I also feel Brian May doesn't get the proper credit he deserves. Besides the great action score that is The Road Warrior, May's score for Frog Dreaming is still at the top of my list of most beautiful and underappreciated scores of all time. IMHO

I'm glad to see that many of Michael J. Lewis's scores are finally coming out. His The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe and FFolks score were very good indeed.

Michael Lewis could be a whole new thread in itself!
Tom :)

I know that May wrote many other, more intimate scores. With "high energy" I mean stuff like The Road Warrior (at least this term isn´t very good, I believe). I like some of May´s scores, but I don´t think that he was a great composer.

BTW. Gray´s Doppelganger-Score is in the same style as his work for Thunderbirds and co.
