What's up, Doc? I've had this sharp pain on my right hip for days now.

Anyway, I've mentioned Blu-ray Audio before but haven't really gotten an answer from any soundtrack producers. Has Intrada ever thought about venturing into Blu-ray Audio releases and presenting some creative 5.1/7.1 mixes, or at the very least, the stereo mixes in 96/24 or 192/24?

That is a real shame given film music was intended to be presented in a multichannel form as you hear it in their respective films.

Precious few film scores have seen the benefit, but a niche of a niche can't be expected to be cost-effective at all. It's totally understandable.

The problem with both 5.1 mixes of ALIENS is that neither is actually in real discrete 5.1 surround. Both tracks are just the Varese Deluxe Edition album - one as is (for the most part) and the other edited to recreate the theatrical version score and both upmixed from stereo, similar to what Dolby Pro Logic does.

Yeah that seems to be the problem of many isolated tracks... Do you know a good isolated score on Blu-ray or DVD with discrete 5.1 ?

For Horner, the UK DVD release of Bicentennial Man is in discrete Dolby 5.1. The UK DVD release of Glory has the isolated score in Dolby 4.0 (Left, Center, Right, Mono Rear Surround)

The US DVD releases of Jumanji (collector's edition NOT any of the subsequent releases) and Legends Of The Fall (special edition not the subsequent releases) also have discrete Dolby 5.1 isolated scores.

Their corresponding Blu-ray releases do not include them.

All titles were released under Sony's Columbia Tristar (Bicentennial Man was a Touchstone release in the US but not the UK)

I have ripped of all them to DTS CDs, I really like all those DVD isolated tracks ! It was the good times, when so many Horner DVDs had the isolated score... That's how I realized how much the film music was made for surround systems.

How about offering 5.1 / 7.1 downloads to those that purchase the physical CD through Intrada?

Didn't Potter 7 Parts 1 and 2 have this option?

In the case of a SACD hybrid disc, everyone could buy the product for a standard CD player + stereo system OR a SACD compatible player + surround system. The disc would sell just like a usual CD release, or potentially a bit more it it drags a new audience in search of surround listening experiences. The main problem seems to be that producing a stereo track + a 5.1 track would be much more expensive that just the stereo alone and would impact the price of the disc. Maybe $30 instead of the usual 20 ? Am I right ?

$30 doesn't sound bad for a 2CD set as it is. Most 2CD sets are in the same price range these days.

I would whole heartedly welcome a 5.1 presentation of JASON. Please consider it.

Not only would the sound improvements be great to have, but I'd love to see this music attached to discs that were far less prone to scratching. CDs can be such a delicate thing to handle. This would help that tremendously.
