I pulled out the CD of "The Ninth Gate" today and gave it a listen, forgot how well composed it was... haunting, eerie, jaunty... wow

His scores to "Dracula" and "Pan Tadeusz" are fantastic as well. It seriously makes you wonder what he would have composed for the LOTR trilogy, if he had been hired.

Add him to the list of many composers we'd like to have write music for more films!

What other Kilar CD's are recommended listening?

Definitelly get two his best scores - The Portrait of a Lady and Konig der Letzten Tage, which especially is marvellous.
Unfortunatelly both are out of print

Great composer, indeed. He also did his fair share of concert works. Among those: the large scale tone poem Exodus, premiered in 1985 and notoriously featured in the Schindler's List trailer.

By the way, Mr. Kilar has a new classical CD out, recently released on the ever enterprising Naxos budget Series:
