Thanks Ed, this makes sense. Soundtrack is not a literal term for the audio, but an indication that the performance was for the soundtrack of a motion picture. Now it doesn't seem so out of place. It's unfortunate you see soundtrack slapped on pretty much anything that contains something from the films soundtrack, however minute that may be. Quite vague. Nevertheless it's not wrong. |

It really irritates me when people say "John Williams composed the soundtrack for...", or something like that. I suppose the absolutely correct way of putting it (for an OST CD) would be "Music from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack". |

Sometimes the albums are mislabelled. I think the original issue of Williams' THE FURY is described as the "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack", but it's actually a re-recording. A damn good score, but it's NOT the actual recording as heard in the film. NP: NEMESIS (Michel Rubini) |
