Tough to find that one score that no one else likes. I mean, no matter what score one chooses, chances are at least some people will like that score, too. It doesn't feel like "fessing up" either, since I like what I like; doesn't matter all that much to me whether anybody else likes it, too.

But among scores I cherish that I believe are not as well regarded as they should be, scores where at least a lot of people probably thumb their noses at:

Leonard Rosenman: Robocop 2 (this one gets a lot of -- in my opinion undeserved -- flak for sure; I like it easily as much if not more than the first one)

James Horner: Thunderheart (cool fusion of Native American sounds and brooding electronics, among my favorite Horner scores)

Danny Elfman: Planet Of The Apes (don't know if this one is really universally despised, probably not; but it's not only that I like it, it may well be my favorite Elfman score, so I thought I include it here)

Well, there you go. I tried... right now I can't think of any less liked scores that I like.

I have always had a liking for True Grit, the original Capitol LP release, yikes ! I know that a lot of people despise this rerecording because they always wanted the original tracks as in the movie (me too !), however I just like it for what it is, and it sounded to me like Elmer was enjoying himself with the big band  on this version.

Elfman's PotA score kicks ass. Every bit the equal of Goldsmith's in my opinion, if very different.

I think Horner's Troy score is fine and works well in the film, but Yared's is certainly a better composition.

Keep in mind Doug that much of what you love in the Horner score is Shostakovich. :)

Here is mine, Goldsmith' THE LAST RUN. I loved the music in the film and I can't get enough of it when listening to the CD. This score is among my top favorites of Goldie. - OK, that's not as hideous as Doug's example, I know.

Here is another one, not a guilty pleasure for me, it's just quite unknown by many people, Francesco Sartori's VAJONT - LA DIGA DEL DISONORE. I guess, almost nobody has ever heard of this film or composer. It has a wonderful song on the album (one version in Italian, the other one in English). I'm really impressed by this score.

I had this weird passion for the old lp release of Nelson Riddle's score for EL DORADO- I know, it was a re-recording not as good as heard in film proper, but I really liked it. I wish I still had it.

Most everyone else I talked to disliked it.

So I listen to scores a lot while I write... if I'm working an action scene, I listen to action music, etc. Works well for me.

Anyway, one of my hidden favs is Sudden Death by John Debney... never hear anyone talk about it, but I think it has some kick a$$ action tracks. Very inspiring.

Recently, I have to say that I like the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning by Steve Jablonsky for working horror scenes. Yes, it is a lot of sound design, and a couple tracks have that "Shock" sound that freaks me out when I'm not paying attention (I've learned to skip those two tracks). However, it really sets a cool mood, and I enjoy it.

Mine would have to be TRUE LIES by Brad Fiedel. This score gets bashed quite a bit but I think it's good ole fashion popcorn action scoring. Yes, the synths suck but the thematic material is fantastic and who doesn't love that heroic fanfare at the end of "Causeway/Helicopter Rescue."
