...things are slowly taking shape...here are ten scores from which the likely "Best of 2006"-list will eventually be assembled. http://bilder-speicher.de/Teodora824701.vollbild.html What are your picks gonna look like? CK, list-maniac (in case you haven't noticed until now! ![]() |

I am sure I will forget something... 1. Eragon 2. The Omen 3. Lady in the Water 4. The Grudge II 5. The Nativity Story 6. Flicka 7. Superman Returns 8. Casino Royale 9. The Fountain 10. Underworld Evolution After hearing The Nativity Story and especially Eragon the order is no sure - at least until there is Goodbye Bafana ![]() Some good scores but not good enough to make it on the best of 2006 list: Apocalypto Pan's Labyrinth Renaissance The Da Vinci Code Lake House Little Miss Sunshine The Departed The Black Dahlia Mission Impossible III The Return V for Vendetta The worse of 2006: - Pirates of the Caribbean II - Ten Commandments - just like any other Edelman - Poseidon - Monster House - Planet Earth - not exactly bad but dissappointing.. |

5 most favourites scores of 2006 (in alphabetical order): The Black Dahlia The Da Vinci Code Lady in the Water Perfume: The Story of a Murderer Soul of the Ultimate Nation Runner-Up: Serenada Schizophrana - I know it's actually concert work but parts of it were used in IMAX Deep Sea 3D so it counts ![]() Honorable Mentions: Alatriste, The Queen, Superman Returns The most disappointing scores: The Banquet, Planet Earth - knowing the previous Tan Dun's scores and George Fenton's BBC projects I was really looking forward these two scores ![]() Looking forward to: Apocalypto, Charlotte's Web, Eragon, The Nativity Story, Night at the Museum, La Sconosciuta ![]() |

So nobody's heard 'Tideland' other than me? And Douglass? ![]() Not that it's the best of the year, or the most tuneful, but it's got in spades what everyone's always complaining that current film scores lack. Loads of invention, fun orchestrations, all that good stuff. Hell, it's from BOTH the Dannas - that's gotta be worth at least an honorable mention on someone's list, hmm? |

Well, this is just so far, it's subject to change, as several scores I'm looking forward to haven't been released yet... 1. The Da Vinci Code 2. The Black Dahlia 3. All the King's Men 4. X-Men: The Last Stand 5. The Promise 6. Lady in the Water 7. V for Vendetta 8. The Queen 9. The Illusionist 10. Wah-Wah Three Great non film music albums... 1. Soul of the Ultimate Nation 2. Letters from Argentina 3. Serenada Schizophrana And I don't know why everyone is so down on "Planet Earth"... it may not be quite at the level of "Deep Blue", but it's still a pretty darn good score. Back at ya later |

The music from those NHK Taiga Dramas are almost always worth looking into. Taro Iwashiro has written a few great scores for them, and there's also Morricone's Musashi, which I still need to get the second CD of. I don't have Komyo Ga Tsuji yet, but it's already on my saved item list at CDJapan. Maybe I'll add it to my next order. I haven't gotten a chance to listen to most of the new scores I've been looking forward to this year, but of the stuff I've already got, I'd say this is my current top three: 3. The Banquet (Tan Dun) Beautiful song, and it contains my single favorite minute of music from 2006. 2. La Planète Blanche (Bruno Coulais) One of my favorite Coulais scores to date. 1. Isabella (Peter Kam) Definitely my favorite score of the year right now. Nothing else has even come close. Hopes are high for Pan's Labyrinth to knock it down a peg, though. |

NP: Eragon Just like the last year. Doyle's work is again the best score of the year! Shame the CD is so short! ![]() |
