Has anyone else noticed that in the past couple of years, soundtrack CDs have become more and more difficult to rip to files with perfect accuracy? Across multiple drives, it seems that I now often have to limit drive speed, which could take about an hour per disc. Has the manufacturing cheapened?

Moral of the story is that you should verify accuracy using good a program, as quick batch rips may bring a significant number of noticeable glitches.

No I have not noticed. Personally I rip CD soundtracks to make my own compilation albums on CD-R. Actually I have never had any issues with that. Well, that is not entirely true since I own one soundtrack on CD that is impossible to rip and that is Chicken Little and that one is not new.

I haven't noticed anything different, be it soundtracks or not. Been using the same drive for I dunno how many years now (though I think it's my second iteration of it).

Are you talking about rip accurately (i.e. get it to test and copy with matching results and no errors) or rip with Accurate Rip (i.e. get the same rip result as others). If the later, well with less people buying CDs there will be less people even using AR so that's a consideration, but when it exists my discs all rip fine.
Do you have examples of specific discs which give you problems?

I have not noticed such a thing at all, using either iTunes (with PerfectTunes) or EAC. Rare that a disc has faults. It happens, sure, but is not often and I did not note an increase. Perhaps your CD drive is aging?

With soundtrack CDs I've had very few issues in that regard. I think it's the drives that are getting worse. They are easily available these days, but you have to change them every now and then - which is a situation I'm not happy about.

When it comes to digital downloads from Qobuz etc., it helps to check the label which is offering the stuff. There are reputable labels where you generally do not have any issues. I have bought quite a few Downloads from Qobuz or directly from labels such as Hyperion, and they were what they claimed. Never had any issues there.

I haven't noticed any difference using EAC in secure mode.
