Music aside, the film is very watchable, if for no other reason than to hear the overwritten script that has very meaty, and quotable dialogue ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067750/quotes ). I love the simplicity of the story line, in which from day one out of 7 years in prison for a bank heist, Gregory Peck's character has only one thing on his mind: and that's to find and kill the man who betrayed him. What almost makes the film churn in ones stomach is the inclusion of an 8 yr. old girl who's presumably Peck's character's daughter from a past relationship before he hit the slammer in Canon City. The girl is a brat and is nothing less than an annoyance to an otherwise fun premise of "I'm gone'a the kill the bustard who wronged me." Grusin's score is impressive and helps the film shine a bit brighter than it might have deserved. What a shame that this score is currently available for license. As is, Grusin is one composer worthy of more releases and is sadly very under represented on CD (On Golden Pond, anyone?). - Oz |
