CD release still needed

Despite being aware of Beltrami's popularity among this community, I never heard his work because he never scored a picture I wanted to see -- until this one. THE WAY I SEE IT is a beautiful film, supported beautifully by a lovely, sensitive, sometimes gently propulsive score.

The documentary will remain on my DVR for repeat viewing and sharing. IF its music ever receives a CD release, I'll take one. (I'm even motivated now to look into whether he has done anything else I could watch.)

Unless you have a particularly strong aversion to westerns, I highly recommend the 3:10 to Yuma remake, film and score. (I don’t always love Christian Bale or Russell Crowe, but they are both amazing in this. And Ben Foster steals every scene he’s in.) This is probably my favorite piece from it:

I was much more underwhelmed by Soul Surfer as a film (I guess I wasn’t expecting such a heavy handed religious element) but Beltrami’s score for that is also incredible and a good gateway into his work:

Thanks for the recommendation, Yavar. In fact I have high standards/expectations for Westerns and low expectations for latter-day remakes of good films -- which is the first reason why I so casually skipped the 3:10 TO YUMA redo. But if I undertake that for Beltrami exposure, I'll let you know what I think. (If your YUMA youtube link above is to a film sequence, I'd rather wait to watch it in whole.)

Besides, I confess to having been mildly Beltrami-curious sometimes when reading some assessments from younger fans of Jerry Goldsmith.

or as always there is a showreel on my website and plenty of samples from 100+ projects - including Yuma and two "westerns" he did for Tommy Lee Jones... not to mention that for anyone into westerns in particular, there are similar elements in many of his other projects considering his "every movie is a western" approach


Also... I would be very curious what kind of movies is Steven Lloyd into?
Since Marco has scored pretty much every genre imaginable from thrillers and horrors, to small and period dramas, historical epics, comedies, documentaries, sci-fi & fantasy and action movies and working with many of today's best directors... so what's left exactly? Maybe animation, which was about to happen at one point but then got screwed up by the producers (or whoever) in the last second. So maybe one day and that's probably the only "genre" left for him to explore.
