Unprintable expletive! I am shocked and sorrowful that the filmmusic community has lost yet another master maestro, and at such a young age where many composers still have their best work ahead of them. Michael Kamen, now Basil Poledouris. Truly tragic. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of this great composer. His music made my life richer.

Just unbelievable...beyond sadness. I had the privileged to have met Basil several years ago, and he was without a doubt a kind and gracious man.
His music speaks for itself....Thank you Basil for giving us your Gift.

As with you guys I was shocked to hear this sad news.

My thought are with his family. One of the best friends of my parents died a year ago at the same age as Basil and this tragic news reminded me of Goran who I could not believe that he was gone just like I can`t believe that Basil is gone all too soon.

Doug, I have some suggestions to you regarding the soundtracks of Mr. Poledouris.
1, Why not rerelease Switchback, your first release in that fine series of releases
or 2, Release an expanded Red Dawn
or 3, Release one of his previously unreleased scores
or 4, Release a compilation/collection double CD with several previously released material on CD One and previously unreleased material on CD Two
or 5, can`t someone out there release the Basil documentary on DVD since if I`m not remembering wrong only released on VHS

like I said, just some suggestions

If anyone could release the doc, it's FSM. They produced it, after all, as the first in a series that went nowhere because the sales were so poor. How sad. Lukas is probably not interested in a DVD release because that would cost money too, but I suggested that maybe he include it as a "bonus" DVD and add five bucks to the price of FSM's next Poledouris release to include the doc with it (just like they did for the documentary on Fielding's The Getaway). This was a year or so ago -- Lukas responded and said it wasn't a bad idea, but not something they could do at the moment. I wonder if he remembers and if now is the right moment.

Like everyone else, I'm shocked and saddened at this news. I wasn't a devoted fan of his, but his music was truly full of integrity and just a class act.

It's also no small praise, thinking of my favorite piece of his (The Orgy from CONAN), that he was the only composer working in the 80s and 90s whose music could have the stylistic heft of Rozsa. And I believe he talked about wanting to emulate Rozsa somewhat on that particular score, if I'm not mistaken.
