Eh, I don't see it as so cynical, simply a one-time marketing experiment that didn't work (at least to the extent they had hoped). No reason to read anything insulting into it. Life's too short!

Regardless, I do commend the current Varese management for taking the risk in bringing out some underappreciated scores. Probably no other label would have bothered releasing Grusin's "And Justice for All" and "Absence of Malice."

I was SO excited when the Universal Classics program was announced.
It's the last repository of great, UNRELEASED scores.
So, I'm entitled to be disappointed in the follow up.

The fans who mist desire this music are mainly older folks. Time waits for no one.
