Is this score kind of like Blade Runner in that there's no perfect release yet? We had the 1983 LP (coming FIVE years after the film!) with the added disco beat. We've got the anniversary edition that added dialog, but sounded much better and didn't have the disco beat. Then there's the new Death Waltz Vinyl from the mono stems...not sure what the story is there. Admittedly, a suite of 5 or 6 cues seems to capture the essence of the score as it repeats itself over and over. But it would be great to have the definitive edition of this.

Death Waltz releases seem to generally be from best available sources for the music they seek to represent. Could be yet another situation where Varese kept the original elements and "lost" them.

Isn't the main theme all you need?
Carpenter scores are better off on compilation albums rather than individual releases as once the main theme's done, it's all just noise from there.
