Anyone who sees this film, let us know what you think of the score in context. I listened to some of it on YouTube and there seems to be a decent amount of imitating the emotional resonance from Vangelis' masterwork, which can't be a bad thing. Jon Burlingame interviews Zimmer and Wallfisch: |

Not really interested in these mega scores, prefer the lesser known, unsung classics. Hans Zimmer doesn't do it for me. His track from the score from the 1985 Nicolas Roeg film Insignificance, B29 (The Shape Of The Universe) I consider to be a blatant ripoff of what Bill Laswell was doing at the time with tracks like Upright Man and 1984. |

I haven't seen the film yet, but I have the download, and there are some good tracks in there, especially Sea Wall. Unfortunately there are some very uninteresting ones as well that can only be descibed as background noise. Epic Records have rather raised the ire of some buyers. A limited edition 2-CD set was announced ('only 2049 copies exist!'). Naturally it sold like hot cakes and many people (myself included) patted themselves on the back for getting a copy in time. Subsequently Epic announced a second edition with the same content ('only 2049 copies exist!' again). That also sold out. And now they have announced a standard edition at $14.98... with the same content. That isn't very ethical by Epic, and a lot of people have cancelled orders. Having purchased my copy of the first edition for around $30 including international shipping costs, I was mildly put out. Then I saw the ridiculous prices that the first edition is fetching on ebay and I'm considering selling my copy to fund Christmas purchases. If it does well enough, I might be able to splurge. |
