La-La Land did say they do have something from James Horner coming this year.

Can Intrada also say the same?

There's a stack of projects he did for Universal, and Intrada likes UMG stuff. But it takes a while. I think MCA comes into the equation too making it tricky? Hopefully some of that is in the pipeline.

I remember the merest sliver of a hint for Horner's Apollo 13 - in 2013! So they really do take a while.

Intrada also hinted at Willow.

Let's hope Willow in 2017.

What was the situation with Volunteers ? I couldn't remember if this is in the pipeline or was confirmed as not happening.

The last I read is that they can't locate the licensor.

Some Googling gives Volunteers: A Potted History.

22/8/11 "Actually, just last week I got confirmation from the company that controls the rights, so we're all good on licensing. But guess what...after turning over every stone they could, they could not find the music elements."
18/7/12 "We have to make sure, but we MAY have found the tapes for Volunteers! We first have to check them but if they are indeed Volunteers, we’ll work with the licensor on releasing it."
18/7/12 "The master situation on Volunteers is still very dicey. "May" is very noncommittal. And then if they do pan out, licensing could be even trickier. But hope springs eternal."
27/5/15 "The licensor is 100% unresponsive. I can't seem to get any traction. Very frustrating -- it reminds me of trying to get that Slipstream license. But I'll figure it out eventually."
9/10/15 "I desperately want to do Volunteers and we located everything. Just need the clearance."
17/5/16 "Ugh...still trying. Licensor just doesn't seem to be interested."

So the initial situation was the licensor was located and was willing to play ball. But there were no elements available. Then later the elements were finally found but at that point the licensor was no longer willing to cooperate. How insanely frustrating!

That's how I read it too. Unfortunate.

Licensor totally not interested. Very frustrating! But we do have Horner on the horizon.

Oh man that sucks! but thank you guys for clarifying for me.
Roger, I think Apollo 13, Expanded: Willow or Expanded: Sneakers may soften the blow
But to be honest knowing that more Horner is coming will do just fine.

Intrada is the home of Horner!

I take it The Hand and Deadly Blessing are still off the table?

Correct. Horner did not want those released.

Send them a batch of fresh cookies.

As for expansions, Apollo 13 and Sneakers is what the world needs.

I'm having great fun going through a complete list of 80s Horner stuff to see what could be next. Quite nostalgic. So much stuff already released. Will post a list in a minute. Sorry, I'm getting very fond of doing lists.

A complete list of Horner 80s titles... possible future releases in bold...

Humanoids from the Deep - released by BSX.
The Hand, Deadly Blessing, Battle Beyond The Stars - declined.
Wolfen - released by Intrada.
The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper - a possibility. Never been ruled out.
Star Trek II - released by FSM.
48 Hrs - released by Intrada.
Space Raiders - stock music from Battle Beyond The Stars.
Something Wicked This Way Comes - released by Intrada a while ago, but now fetches silly prices and a reissue may be possible?

Krull - released twice by La La Land Records.
Brainstorm - Varese in perpetuity.
Testament - released by FSM.
The Dresser - score is only 10-15 mins... maybe tie it to something else?
Gorky Park - released by Intrada and Kritzerland.
Uncommon Valor - released by Intrada.
Star Trek III - released by FSM.
Heaven Help Us - unreleased. Horner wrote three scores apparently. A possibility.
Cocoon - released by Intrada.
Volunteers - licensor declined.

The Journey of Natty Gann - released by Intrada a while ago, but a reissue might be possible? One of my favourite soundtrack albums ever.
Commando - released by Varese CD Club and La La Land.
Off Beat - another possibility.
Aliens - released by Varese in 2001.
Where The River Runs Black - Varese Encore release in 2015.
The Name of the Rose - No release since initial album. Possible expansion?
An American Tail - released by MCA at the time, and Intrada like doing MCA titles, so this is a distinct possibility!
PK and the Kid - Unreleased. A possibility?
Project X - released by Varese CD Club in 2001. No idea if they have this in perp.
*batteries not included - another MCA title so this could be something they're working on.

Willow - now owned by Disney so a real possibility for Intrada.
Red Heat - 44 minute CD release in 1988 but nothing since. Only nine mins missing so would it be worthy of expansion?
Vibes - had a Varese Encore release, and according to Ford Thaxton this is all that survives.
The Land Before Time - I'd suggest this is the unexpanded 80s Horner title most people want, and it's MCA Records again, so a real chance of Intrada tackling it...
Cocoon: The Return - Varese CD Club release last year.
Field of Dreams - 50m album released at the time. Only 5-10 mins missing so is it worth an expansion?
Honey, I Shrunk The Kids - released by Intrada.
In Country - released by Intrada.
Dad - 40 min MCA release at the time. Another possibility.
Glory - 43 minute album released at the time. Yet another possibility.

40 1980s titles in all:

20 have had 'final word' releases.
4 are unavailable
1 uses stock music
1 confirmed Varese in perp

So I'd say that leaves 14 possibles, plus reissues if there's a demand.

What do you think?
