Just started listening through the home theater setup (first listening through headphones). I'm not an audio professional, but you really need to listen through speakers to appreciate how skillfully the various sources have been blended together. There's an astonishing richness and depth! Hats off to Chris Malone and the rest of the tech team, and to Douglass for the careful and loving assembly of cues. What struck me finally, after sixty years of listening to this music, is the extraordinary seamlessness with which the composer segues from one motif to the next. I had always taken that totally for granted. This is "Mickey-Mousing" taken to the most sophisticated level imaginable! No wonder this score has captivated this listener for sixty years.

My good friend Craig Lysy has written has written an in-depth (like Mariana Trench-deep) review of the score and Intrada's release, which I recommend everyone to give a read.

:?:

Am I the first to notice that Track 21 on Disc 1 ("Take Him Away," asterisked as "Not Featured In Film") is IDENTICAL to Track 25A ("Egyptian Border," which segues directly into "Moses Crosses Desert")???

After posting this I did a little experiment. If you start playing the "Take Him Away" cue after Rameses says this line in the court scene it sort of fits the rest of the scene. So I guess they did toy with reusing the first part of "Egyptian Border" here. But the scene does work best with just the drums punctuating Sethi's lines "Let the name of Moses ...".

So I have been listening to this set and noticed a few things:

The original mono OST track "In the Bulrushes" has a version of "Bithia's Bathing Float" performed in a lower octave/on bass flute.

Track 23 of Disc 3 "The Royal Barge (Short Source Alternate)" is technically just the next cue after "The Royal Barge"

"Wild Tiple" was overlayed onto The Die is Cast in the film.

"Exodus (Part 3) (Short Version)" is the film version, the version on Disc 2 is an alternate

Another interesting thing, is that when placed against the film, the alternate version of Court Dance starts right at the beginning of the scene, while the "film version" actually starts way earlier.

Is there any indication if the "Hounds and Jackals" scene was longer? perhaps with onscreen musicians?

Also what was up with "The Lord's Side (Brass)" and insert or an overlay?
