Besides electronic scores from the 1980's and early 1990's in general (release more Sly Levay!), one of my obsessions is trailer music from the same period. Occasionally you see one included with the soundtrack album, but it's very rare. The Peacemaker had one, as did Disturbing Behavior, but it's my understanding they were by the composers themselves (DB was John Beal's arrangement). Plenty of movie fans know John Eric Alexander's iconic music to Lethal Weapon trailers (and dozens of others), yet they remain unreleased, not counting the vocal version on Hot Fuzz CD. At the same time, John Beal was able to release a 2CD of his trailer scores. It's the only one of its kind I know of. Anyone know what the copyright status of trailer music is, and why even the most famous ones aren't found anywhere? Are the works by Alexander, Beal, and, for example, Jonathan Elias, lost forever? Trailers used to be an art, dammit! 2-disc Hot Fuzz album coming from LLL. Fingers crossed that they have graced us with a clean version of the trailer music. |
