What is the oldest soundtrack (or film music related) recording you own?

And I don't mean the date of the music (i.e. a newer release of some old film scores), but the date of the release, the oldest physical carrier you have... the oldest CD release, or vinyl or 78-rpm recordings... or even piano rolls?
What's your oldest item, and did you buy it when it was new or did you fetch it later on the used or antiquarian market?

I'm not a big old records collector, but I own these two LPs I got on the second market. Yep, they're the oldest records I own.

I have a few dozen vinyl records from the 60s and 70s that were bought used during the 21st century, simply because it's the only music format on which the soundtracks exist. They get replaced once the music is released digitally from original master tapes. Offhand, I don't know what's the oldest with regard to original release date, but they are mostly from the 60s.

I guess it may be Jerry Goldsmith`s The Prize LP release.

Norman Corwin's On A Note Of Triumph (1945) 6 78 rpm) Musical score by Bernard Herrmann

http://soundtrackcollector.com/title/94 ... Of+Triumph

Picked in up at a junkstore in Ohio years ago cheap.

The RCA 78 rpm set of Miklos Rozsa's Jungle Book, same deal, cheap. I believe this was the first ever film score made commercially available.

I also have a copy of the 1950 MGM records release of Tony Mottola's, Danger. I traded a Charlie Ventura LP for this one.

The oldest I own is a three-disc 78rpm album of six songs from THE THREE CABALLEROS (Disney, 1945), obtained in 1984 as part of a trade with a 16mm film dealer. Because this is still my favorite animated Disney feature and I hadn't even known that release existed, I granted the guy $50 trade value for that set. The records were in perfect condition, happily, but I was indignant to find a "$1" price pencilled into an upper corner. (Since it was in pencil, I would have erased that before moving it to a buyer: I felt suckered!)

But for film scores proper, my two oldest albums are both prime. (And it's too bad I don't have the capability of posting photos here, since I just took shots.)

In Summer 1972 when I was 18, my film-music mentor had introduced me to Alfred Newman and was delighted by my enthusiastic response to THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD. The following summer -- only a week after the release of Charles Gerhardt's RCA Newman anthology -- my friend made me an unexpected gift of the 10-inch LP of Newman's CAPTAIN FROM CASTILE on Mercury Records. (He had located a spare.)

Then in May 2011 I was invited back to his home six months after his death, to help liquidate some of his possessions. There I found something I never knew he had owned, because he had never mentioned it: Miklos Rozsa's QUO VADIS (a set of four extended-play 45rpm discs) from MGM Records, in virtually perfect condition.

My older, wiser, better-versed friend and I had presented each other with many bull's-eye gifts over my life. But he hit the target last, and without leaving me another chance to try to top him.
