I've got the impression that you could have known the answer way before. At best, the results are kind of a therapy for frustrated people or free marketing research for you. Anyway, here is my suggestion for you or any other producer of limited merchandise. If you care about those who risk to miss out on a limited title, if you really care about that problem, then change the system how you announce and sell. Sell your stock in parts, during a specific period of time in limited quantities. Let me explain: On day X there are, let's say 1000 copies of the new title available for order. First come, first served. Those who missed get another chance on day Y, let's say two weeks or a month later, when another batch of 1000 copies will be made available. And so on... |

I think chris has a great idea! Kinda like graduated driver's licensing, but in this case it would be graduated selling. Batch selling certainly addresses the frustrations of devoted collectors whose personal circumstances may prevent them from a rapid internet response, if they are on a shoot or travelling. If the title is a hot item, it will move regardless of the use of time space and it levels the purchasing field somewhat. The window for manipulating this scheme, in terms of length, would have to be regulated by Intrada. Sounds like a win/win for both Intrada and their customer base, not that it implies that everyone will get a copy. Winners and losers is, unfortunately, the nature of markets. b. |

I think that the unpredictable atmosphere of the film score collector market has been clearly portrayed by the now infamous INCHON incident, which is similar to, but nothing like, the Varese Club LP Reissue effect. I would like to see a top twenty list of the best selling limited discs complete with pressing amount and total sell out time. Analyzing the top 20 best sellers will give a good indication on the market itself, but still will not predict future feeding frenzies as we just witnessed. I, for one, congratulate INTRADA on their unpredicted success with the repressing of INCHON. And thank them for doing it, as I've been wanting an improved edition for years. Anybody want to speculate on how the next release (arriving in two weeks) will perform? |
