His plane crashed while he was piloting it.
Very sad... what a tremendous talent. I'm still in shock.

That's very sad to see. This must hit Intrada hard given their friendly association with him.

One consolation is that he had one heck of a career and probably lived a better life than most of us combined.

There are no words. I'm in absolute shock and tremendously saddened by this news. My best goes toward his family. Horner deserved better than this. I will miss him dearly.

I cannot believe that my favorite composer of all time, James Horner's life has come to an end. He was the one who got me started on film scores. *sigh* My heart goes out to his loved ones, family, and friends. He left us a great legacy, and we'll always remember him. Goodbye, Mr. Horner. *cries*

I am still struggling to get my head around this. He was one of my favourite composers and has left a body of work that will stand the test of time.
Of his 100 plus scores it is hard to choose a favourite as he crossed into different genres. His work with Ron Howard, Mel Gibson, James Cameron et al added immensely to the enjoyment of those films. His style, with the exception of Mr Williams & Mr Elfman, has largely gone out of fashion these days and most films are the poorer for it. We have his music and for that are grateful .... but oh I would love to have heard more from this talented musician

Very sad news.
His score for Field of Dreams is inspirational

This is a tragic loss. My thoughts go to his family and his friends. I just can't say a word, I'm too sad to speech. So I'll let his music speech for me with this little homage I did some years ago.

A true champion and among the greatest. Mr Horner gave us many great times at the movies and when you saw his name on the credits , you knew you were up for something special.
I was among those who loved his earlier scores like Wolfen, Commando , 48 hrs, Star Trek, Aliens etc, but listening to braveheart, titanic, Avatar and his other bloclkbusterscores made you realise how great he actually was.
I will miss him , but his music will live on forever as a legacy to a great composer.

I'm playing my most recent James Horner purchase as I write this: Deep Impact (I've been hunting down a lot of his earlier releases). With the kind of typical understatement that some of his best scores convey,Track 8 hits the nail on the head. It's called "Sad News".

One of my first scores, long before the internet made finding these gems that bit easier, was the single-disc Krull in the late 80s, which I found in a specialist store in Leeds called Movie Boulevard. The day I discovered deluxe editions existed was the day I bought the expanded Aliens. The OST that introduced me to Intrada (last year - sorry I'm late) was Something Wicked This Way Comes. I'll be replaying all these and many more over the next few days; James's scores always have, and shall continue to be, a source of such pleasure. So it's hard to accept there will be no more films enhanced by his music.

Intrada, and other labels, have done a wonderful job presenting older James Horner scores that either never got released or were cut down. In a way, this means we can still enjoy new releases even though the man who wrote them is no longer with us. In that way, it's an opportunity to celebrate his music still. I'm sure we all have our James Horner wish-lists (top of mine is The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) and hopefully we'll get to enjoy some of them soon. And in this way, he will never really be gone.

Track 12 of Deep Impact is on now. "Goodbye and Godspeed". And to that, the only thing I can add is Thank You, James.

Rest In Peace.

This news was quite a blow this morning.

For my birthday last week-end, I got Pas de Deux, and this morning I received Searching for Bobby Fischer; his music has been part of my life for quite some time, like that of a few other outstanding composers.
I grew up discovering film music thanks to Williams, and listening to two LPs, by Williams and Goldsmith. When I upgraded to CDs and then to more financial means, Horner quickly became another name (with Elfman) that I looked for, that I knew to be a guarantee of quality: a great sense of what the movies needed, a great melodic gift, a great sense of orchestration, a great elegance.

Thank you very much for all the wonderful music, Mr Horner.

RIP James Horner.

Thank You to Intrada for bringing out so many of his wonderful scores into the open. COCOON, THE JOURNEY OF NATTY GAAN, A FAR OF PLACE,HOUSE OF CARDS, SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS, GORKY PARK, EXTREME CLOSE UP, 48 HOURS, UNCOMMON VALOUR.

I would be delighted and as other fans would be if Doug or Roger whoever dealt directly with James Horner could share some stories that went behind during the production of these mentioned cds.

And here is hoping we will get many more reissues and expansions down the road.
