Intrada Soundtrack Forum

With the new release of REMO WILLIAMS (a great one, too!) and his AMAZING STORIES episode on Vol 2. it reminds me what a great composer Safan is. I love the way he writes the brass in his music, especially in the main title of REMO or THE LAST STARFIGHTER.

Pity he's not getting the big projects today, I'd love to see what he'd come up with for one of these many comic book films being churned out today.

Any thoughts on his music?

Safan always seemed to be one of those composers right on the verge of superstardom, then he'd vanish. THE LAST STAR FIGHTER appeared to be the score that ushered him is as the new power player on the block, but as with Broughton's orchestral powerhouse score to SILVERADO, such promise, but he never really seem to reach JOHN WILLAIMS, JAMES HORNER, JERRY GOLDSMITH like status.

Off the top of my head, these are the only CDS of his music to be released.

While on the subject - take a look at what he's been up to. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006268/ "Freddy VS Ghostbusters" seems to be the most recent bussiness for him and it's only re-using his score from ELM ST: 4.

What a crime that he dosen't get offered more or doesn't take on highrr profile assignments.

And why doesn't INTRADA offer up one of his recent HALLMARK HALL OF FAME scores? They seem to be doing a lot of those these days.

I've just discovered Mr. Wrong, thanks to Intrada, and I must say it's a great comedy score ! I usually don't like comedy scores that much, but this one really has every quality a comedy should have : witty writing, a non stop explosive/rousing/loony symphony, and some very original sounds and harmonies that gives this score a unique personality (the blend of typical Safan's choirs with typical Safan's synthetic sounds a la Starfighter, and a very enjoying latino touch !). Oh and I love this western ending, so unexpected and so damn well rendered ! I would love to hear a western from Craig Safan one day !

I'd be curious to hear Safan's music re-inserted back into Wolfen. I suppose some of it might not match up due to edit changes, but hmmm, I might give this a try sometime. I do like Horner's score quite a bit. (and would LOVE an official CD release)

Speaking of The Last Starfighter, now this is one score I love blasting in my car!
