Over the years I have read posts from guys who say their wives are complaining, and bitching about the number of CDs arriving in the mail. While some of the objections may be for financial reasons I'm wondering if there might be be a competitive aspect to it as few things are more damaging to a marriage than when the husband becomes so interested in something else attention is taken away the wife. Perhaps the music is offering something emotional that she cannot. Perhaps she's noticed that he seems happier after listening to Elmer Bernstein's True Grit than he is after sex. I've been called a misogynist for having these sort of opinions but as far as I'm concerned, human nature is what it is.

With those I know, it is always a simple factor of wives thinking that this stuff is a waste of money and them not being able to see how anyone can derive much enjoyment from it all. In other words, they feel that the cost-benefit is negatively askew. A lot of men think the same about their wives' collections of purses and shoes, so I just call it even.

We all have our biases about these things. I personally think that young adults waste far too much time and money on video games, but that might mostly be because I have no interest in that stuff anymore.

That’s an interesting point. My wife gives me total support in my collection. She helps with opinions on how I must build the shelves. She never complains about anything.

Her assertions are that we must preserve the collection to our grandson. She completely understands the meaning of film music in my life. I find myself free to enjoy my passion for music without interference in our personal life.

In my case, my wife makes all things better. :)
