Disney Recors has began an amazing collection of soundtracks of his best 12 animated movies. The first edited is the Lion King and this CD is fantastic. It's a good job almost as an Intrada work.
What about the Disney/Intrada series ?
Except new movies we don't have news anymore about it. Intrada has always keept a lot of discretion about that refusing to announce titles.
We expected that many titles could be out, but we had few, few but nice. But recently not classic movies just new movies.
Maybe Doug could tell us more about what will follow if something follows ? Can we expect good surprises ? The two George Bruns missing soundtracks The Sword in the stone and Robin Hood ? The Rescuers ? Many people says that the score is defenetly lost. The Fox and The hound ? Or live action movies like the Herbies ? Blackbeard's Ghost ? Pete's Dragon ?

Well, Intrada just recently released Disney's Night Crossing and a premiere of Broughton's score for The Rescue not long before that. Goldsmith understandably takes some priority for older releases as he's among what sells best in today's niche market.

Last year, Doug mentioned that they were in the process of going through elements of scores by composers like Bruns, Paul J. Smith, Oliver Wallace, Goodwin, Mandel, and the usual suspects.

Patience required!

Randy Thornton says in regard to The Rescuers master tapes," If material was truly lost, it must have been Mr. Butler’s personal copies. The actual recordings should still be in the library. I don’t have definitive proof (well, not yet anyway), but it is highly unlikely that ‘the only’ sources are gone – particularly from that era." . :)

And Doug says: Patience, people. We're working in those Disney vaults with their hard-working folks just as fast as is practical. In fact, on my plate now are not one but two very big Disney projects I'm now editing and assembling. And many more are in Randy's hands being developed and prepared for licensing as we speak. Gads, we've come out with a LOT of Disney albums over these last couple of years. And we're also working with virtually every other film studio on numerous other soundtracks as well. Randy has a cool slate of things for us to tackle as we and him can position them into our schedules. No one is relaxing around here, that's for sure.

Even at six albums a month it would take years to turn every Paul Smith, George Bruns, Oliver Wallace etc. Disney scoring project into a CD reality. And that says nothing of all the endless still-to-be-discovered-and-restored scores from elsewhere by Goldsmith, Horner, Williams, North, Steiner, Waxman, Friedhofer, Herrmann, Rozsa, Zimmer, Bernstein, Poledouris, Jarre... well, you get the idea.

Will Rescuers happen? Sure, at some point. And a complete restoration of Broughton's Rescuers Down Under, too. But please be patient. I am absolutely thrilled to have Disney also hard at work with the classic animation projects that are happening... but again, it will take everyone there years to get all this stuff pulled from the vaults, evaluated and prepped for transfers, scheduled for restoration, mixing and editing and whatnot. The future holds tremendous excitement for all of us fans of that whole Disney music world, songs and scores both!
--Doug

P.S. For all those individuals who tend to complain that everything has been done and there is so little left to release, I can only point to our plate with Disney alone and say you are so very very wrong. :)

Just have to ask about this...

any chance you might be able to do a compilation of Giacchino's Pixar shorts?
There is already enough of them to fill a few CDs...
Any chance of that happening or re-use fees would make a collection of short scores way too expensive?

Mr. Giacchino: Will there be a deluxe edition soundtrack for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS? If so, when can we expect it? How about JOHN CARTER?

Mr. Giacchino: Will there ever be a soundtrack release for Seasons 3, 4, and 5 of ALIAS? ALCATRAZ? Will there be a compilation of your scores for Pixar shorts?

--------------------

1) I would love for there to be a STID deluxe edition and hopefully you will get your wish soon. And I hadn't thought about John Carter, but I would love to put together a full version of that cd for release, I would like to, but as of this time there are no plans for it.

2) I don't know. As far as Alias and Alcatraz, I always feel that hole left by not having finished the soundtrack releases, and I would like to do that. It's harder for the projects that didn't do as well as you would have hoped to get things like that done. I hope so (re: Pixar shorts). I hope that there will be. There's definitely been between my Disney and Pixar shorts enough music to release, so hopefully we will be able to do that soon.

Doug. I think people just don't get any idea of the TIME it takes to prepare a score for a release. I think they imagine this is just about copying-pasting music from the vaults to a CD...

Does anyone know if Disney plans to continue on with the Legacy Collection after 2015? I really hope that they plan on releasing more than twelve titles for the entire collection.

If the sales are satisfying enough for Walt Disney Records, there will be more... Like always !
