I gave up actively trying to get my wife interested in film music some time ago and I've retreated to listening these CDs with headphones or on the PC. She has said that since knowing me (and my vice) she has become more aware of movie music, but it hasn't increased her interest. She has been known to listen to scores such as Dances With Wolves or something like Regarding Henry, but that's about it. I do try and "expose" the children to music they are likely to come across in the movies they watch, so they may sometimes ask for a Harry Potter CD and will recognise and listen to (with enthusiasm) scores such as Lord of The Rings, Shrek, etc. I do know that getting them to listen to Bernard Herrmann will be a bit more tricky - I know for a fact that Cape Fear does frighten my son. |

She doesn't listen to music much ie she doesn't sit down and listen to it like I do, not to say she doesn't like it. Anyway she likes John Williams, and some of the stuff I listen too as well, but mostly I'm a Hermit. sd ![]() |

My wife likes film music in two categories... pretty, romantic material is the first, you know, John Barry in "Somewhere in Time" mode, that sort of thing. On the other hand, she also really likes offbeat, unusual music that doesn't really sound like "typical movie music"... the more off-the-wall stuff from Elfman, Morricone, the more bizarre foreign vocals, strange electronic stuff and so on. Interestingly, her favorite score is Hans Zimmer's "Beyond Rangoon". But, she mostly listens to film music with me... when she's on her own, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel and Queen get all the attention from the lady of the house. Castle in the Sky by Joe Hisaishi and The Girl from Paris by Phillippe Rombi. Everything else... nada. She's tried to get me into Depeche Mode, which isn't bad, but I never seem to be in the mood to listen to it. Time to grab Conan the Barbarian off the shelf, lol Matt |
