INTRADA Announces: BLOWN AWAY Music Composed and Conducted by ALAN SILVESTRI INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 264 For the 1994 MGM film Blown Away, composer Alan Silvestri provided a dynamic, dramatic and ultimately explosive score. Silvestri’s powerful music wound up almost entirely unheard outside of the finished film—and even within the film, it was significantly edited and frequently pushed up against attention-grabbing songs from the likes of U2 and October Project. With this new release, listeners can at last experience Silvestri’s score for Blown Away in its full and unadulterated form—a thrilling marriage of action and passion, and a virtuoso example of how music for bombs can be far more than simple bombast. To create this CD, Intrada was given access to the composer’s own complete two-track digital scoring session masters. The results sound crisp and vibrant on this premiere release. Blown Away centers around Jimmy Dove (Jeff Bridges), a senior member of Boston’s bomb squad who has a reckless propensity for putting himself in harm’s way. Dove is motivated by a past tragedy, and only two people know his dangerous secret: his elderly Irish uncle, Max O’Bannon (Lloyd Bridges); and Ryan Gaerity (Tommy Lee Jones), an incarcerated terrorist and explosives genius who was deemed “too crazy” for the IRA. When Gaerity escapes on the eve of Dove’s retirement and begins a campaign of terror and revenge, it’s up to Dove, with the help of his cocky new partner Anthony (Forest Whitaker), to stop him before everything and everyone he loves is literally blown away. INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 264 Retail Price: $19.99 Available Now For track listing and sound samples, please visit http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.8507/.f |

It is always a delightful surprise when an album for a score I like has a lot more music than expected. Thanks Intrada and the very fan-friendly Alan Silvestri, who I'm sure reads the forum on a regular basis. ![]() |

I'm delighted to see so much love around Alan Silvestri. I remember a time (early 90's) when I was listening to his music like if I had discovered the 8th wonder, and nobody knew who or what he was. Now he's a legend and he has gained the love of everyone by spreading his beautiful, tender, funny, rousing, emotional music, for decades ! For me, he'll always be the special composer in my child's heart and seeing the release of such sensational scores like Blown Away by you Intrada guys, makes me smile like no other composer can bring me so much happiness. ![]() |

This complete work has a very good mix of the subdued and the powerful with frequent appearances of some familiar Silvestri motifs bringing it all together. I can see some people who are almost exclusively enamored by the high-octane side of Silvestri's action scoring finding many parts a bit boring, but those who like all facets of his approach will greatly enjoy at least most of the presentation. Amazing sound, too. Oh, and it's yet another release with notes by John Takis. It is good to see him get so much work these days. |

I'm just coming back to say... WHAT AN AWESOME AWESOME score and release. I mean, I usually don't like thriller scores. They're too often moody and tiring. But Blown Away is just amazingly catchy and powerful. Every cue works on your body and your heart. You just feel the danger in all your bones and you appreciate every little orchestration, every little sound, instrument and choir. Nobody writes music like this anymore in those movies, it's just about beats and loud sound now to create an atmosphere. Back then it was chimes and harps and all these symphonic little sounds combined in a glorious ensemble. Alan Silvestri has simply written one of the best thriller score I've ever heard. And of course, as usual, thank you to Intrada for letting this masterpiece "shine its way" through our ears (pun intended related to a more recent score by Silvestri). ^^ |
