Disney's Robin Hood had 40 years in 2013 Disney's The sword in the stone had 50 years in 2013 This anniversary was the occasion to release their soundtrack on CD, never released before. Regrettably it will not. Two years ago the association with Disney annonced big events and a lot of unpublished editions. We had nothing exceptional. Except the black cauldron. I feel a litte diappointed. |

Luckily for you, and the rest of us, Intrada doesn't solely plan their releases around arbitrary anniversary celebrations. In other words, give them some time to release classic Disney soundtracks as I'm sure they would love to roll them out much more quickly. |

I was going to say something, but I just told myself "naaah Doug's gonna do it!". ![]() I believe what frankiedos considers as something exceptionnal is only what he knows (Disney classic animated features like The Black Cauldron, The Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood) based more on the movies than on the scores and composers and what they meant for the world of film music . What we consider exceptionnal is iconic John Barry recording the first digital score of history (and a fantastic one), legendary Alan Silvestri composing for a whole team of Marvel superheros, dearly missed Basil Poledouris half rejected score (what a treasure!) for the beloved Jack London's wolf story, Randy Newman's final and finest musical effort for the most successful Pixar movie ever, Michael Giacchino's first and only oscar winning adventure score, etc. If you don't call all that (and much more) exceptionnal, well I'm a not a soundtrack afficionado anymore. I leave you the job. ^^ |

I was also going to respond to the "nothing exceptional" part, but felt that I would come off as too strongly imposing my own tastes. But, yeah, there have been a lot of exceptional Disney releases from Intrada. Most importantly, lots of releases that many people actually requested. Go figure that Intrada primarily goes where the demand is. |

And December 15 marks the 70th anniversary of the death of Fats Waller. |

Hokey smokes! Maybe this guy needs to start his own label so he can program it to his own tastes. You can't do every release all at once. You have to do a well-rounded slate that you can reasonably afford to take on at any one time while also juggling releases from other libraries. Sheesh! Much appreciated for your efforts, Intrada. You keep doing what you do best and we'll keep doing what we do best (buying them). Larry |
