I was going to say something, but I just told myself "naaah Doug's gonna do it!".
I believe what frankiedos considers as something exceptionnal is only what he knows (Disney classic animated features like The Black Cauldron, The Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood) based more on the movies than on the scores and composers and what they meant for the world of film music .
What we consider exceptionnal is iconic John Barry recording the first digital score of history (and a fantastic one), legendary Alan Silvestri composing for a whole team of Marvel superheros, dearly missed Basil Poledouris half rejected score (what a treasure!) for the beloved Jack London's wolf story, Randy Newman's final and finest musical effort for the most successful Pixar movie ever, Michael Giacchino's first and only oscar winning adventure score, etc. If you don't call all that (and much more) exceptionnal, well I'm a not a soundtrack afficionado anymore. I leave you the job. ^^
