Does anyone know if the recordings for this soundtrack still exist in some dusty vault somewhere?

This score is my all time top favourite since I saw the movies in the cinema back in the 70's and would dearly give my right arm to get a copy of it on CD.

Does anyone know if any soundtrack label has ever looked into getting this one released?

Looking at passed treads on this discussion board, there has been loads of folks interested in this one.

Any Comments ?

It's an Elmer Bernstein score, and a more popular one at that, so I'm sure it has been looked into.

Given that the film was produced by Hemdale Film, this would be an MGM property now, correct? Considering the changing of studio hands, I'm not optimistic about the prospects for original elements.

Maybe my armchair comment will get a knowledgeable label producer to chime in.

I wish someone would release this score. It's been on my list for quite a while.

Yes, any feedback on whether the tapes still exist or whether it's 'doable' would be very much appreciated. I'd certanly buy a copy if it ever gets a CD release.

I understand tapes exist. Licensing has been a challenge. Not as much as a challenge as SLIPSTREAM was, though.

Wow, thanks Roger. We can now keep our fingers crossed and hope that someday it might happen. Just knowing that the tapes still exist is terrific.

Roger,
You said that Licensing has been a challenge. The terms "has been" are past tense! Does this possibly mean that you could be making my Christmas!
You surely would make my year if this gem got an airing:-)

"has been" does not equal "was"

I have also been looking for this soundtrack for years and really hope a release comes soon. I presumed the tapes must exist because of music used on the 2003 DVD release, on the menus and such.

It seems to be a relatively highly sought-after soundtrack so I hope whatever licensing issues there are can be sorted out.

:?
Has Been

Was
Either of 2 outcomes here: you succeeded or had to give up...
I'm hoping the former.
You release, I'll buy them!!
