And it didn't need a second disc only for instrumental tracks without vocals... |

Debney had a very specific idea in how he wanted the chorus to be mixed in. We provided a mix with it at a higher level, but his vision was to have it as a color of the orchestra, not a soloist, so it was mixed down a bit. My guidance to you is not to ruin the experience by getting overly caught up in comparisons between the various sources out there. Get the CD, turn off the lights, and just enjoy the journey. |

So folks will know, Debney had nothing to do with the Bette Midler song. Not a thing. He did, however, work on Horner's material and actually arranged bits of the melody into some of his own cues. It was always a goal of ours to include all of Debney's score - and if we could secure rights - the Horner material including Sarah Jessica Parker's haunting rendition of it during her flying scene. The Bette Midler part would have been fun but I am happy enough with the entire score being available. I generally don't look at these albums as being "souvenirs" of the movie but wonderful film score listening experiences. Nothing against the Midler vocal, but we're John Debney & James Horner fans first, Bette Midler fans second. Or something like that. --Doug |

I'll be non-diplomatic and say that I'm perfectly fine without the Midler vocal as I would have listened to it a grand total of zero times. Well, maybe a little of it once by mistake. |

Clearly there is differences in the opening Garden of Magic, as you can hear here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/fo2dnm First part is the Intrada album, second part is the film version. So Doug and Roger... while I do appreciate this release... I have to ask why were the film versions of Garden of Magic and Witches Capture Dani not included on the Intrada release? I know before I had mentioned I would have liked to have a couple non-vocal versions, which most people seemed to agree were not really alternates, and I can accept that thinking, but clearly the examples of Garden of Magic and Witches Capture Dani are examples of film version/alternates that ideally should have been included and the album versions put under "The Extras". Thoughts? |
