Does anyone know if or when some new V.S. club cd's are scheduled to be Released?

Have there been ANY releases in their "Varese Encore" series since last November? I was hoping they'd use this series as an opportunity to finally put Laurence Rosenthal's BRASS TARGET on CD. (If I remember correctly, that's one of their "in perpetuity" titles.)

I really look forward to these batches, they're great fun.

I must regrettably concur. Varèse has given us many treasures especially via the CD Club but that seems to have ground to a halt. They just don't seem very interested in making soundtracks any more, especially since they got bought. That said, apparently the recent anniversary concert was quite an affair. I just wish they could engage more with their own catalog, or give other, more active labels a crack at some of those riches.

I find it somewhat ironic that for years (decades?) we've complained at the movie studios for refusing to licence their title. Now they're all happy to do so, it's one of "our own" that is 'refusing' to release music they control.

Hopefully this is merely a delay while the new owners of the label work through their assets to prioritise releases. Fingers crossed.

There was a recent interview with Mr. Townson that I heard on YouTube. When it comes to older soundtracks, he essentially mentioned that much of everything of interest has been released but he will continue to champion the usual suspects like Jerry Goldsmith, Michael Kamen and Elmer Bernstein. As expected, of particular interest to him seemed to be modern interpretations and live performances.

There are some new scores they've released this year that I really like, Side Effects being one of them, but their Club series is what really grabs my interest. Who knows, a whole slew of older soundtracks might come our way once these 35th anniversary concerts are over. I imagine that planning for these events is very time consuming, and it is nice to see someone pursuing their true passions in life.

I get the impression that Mr Townson has become more than happy to focus on being concertmaster for up-n-coming/living composers than continue to restore old score recordings.
And being that the Varèse label still focuses on new music. That makes perfect sense.

So, I think the label should hire another individual to take charge of the club stuff.
So that it gets done regularly, for one thing... And secondly, to prevent errors (like on Escape-Apes). And thirdly, to communicate with us collectors on what's up in the same manner that Intrada, LLL & Kritzerland do.
