I'm very interested to hear what North did with the film "Willard", plus this William Castle film "Shanks", both unreleased in any format. Anyone seen or heard these scores in the film?

Of all of 'em, "Shoes of the Fisherman" is probably my favorite, but not by a longshot... other North scores I own and really enjoy include:

The Misfits
The Sound and the Fury
The Wonderful Country/King and Four Queens
The Agony and the Ecsasty (a close second!)
A Streetcar Named Desire
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

However, I must admit that I rarely listen to Cleopatra... it's fine, but parts of it simply start to grate on me after a while. I can't really say why, but I just don't really dig it.

I also would like to hear anything from WILLARD and/or SHANKS.... North doing horror?.... the possibilities are delicious to consider. I haven't seen WILLARD for many years, and SHANKS I don't think many people anywhere have seen.... I know I haven't.

But my vote for what's currently out there:

Yes, North is a challenging listen almost no matter what score, but he was also BLOODY BRILLIANT. Some composers (who shall remain nameless) offer easy to digest, sacharrin scores that you hear a couple times and never desire to hear again-- but in any Alex North score I always hear something I never noticed before, and that will cause an unconcious smile to form on my face, or a giddy chuckle at the least.

NP: THE MUMMY by Jerry Goldsmith (does he have a better or more driving score of the 90's? I think not!)

Alex North is also one of my favourite composers. I remember liking the WILLARD score in the film, particularly the scoring for the conditioning sequence. North did manage to bring out the human elements in the film. I remember that haprsichord was also featured in the score. I think I have the complete soundtrack (dialogue, effects, and music) on a tape somewhere.

North is very, very good at introspective scoring. Looking forward to getting DEATH OF A SALESMAN in the Elmer Bernstein box set. Willy's theme always pulls at my heart. Fred Steiner's adaptation of North's score in the 80s television version, with Dustin Hoffman and Kate Reid, is worthy of a complete release. His TV score for THE WORD, too.

The only North score that really didn't generate too much interest, for me, is A DREAM OF KINGS.
