Rosewood is one of my favorite "less known" Williams. I love the mood and the gospel of this album. But : 1) I don't know how much score have been left out from the album. 2) Can a score only single CD be something to be heard without the gospel ? 3) I already have the second CD. |

Easily one of the most boring scores I've ever heard. Pass. |

I think the score makes for a fairly good album, but I'm not sure if I would go for an all-inclusive expansion. As with everything else, I will certainly give the samples a try. Perhaps more interesting to me is that this is the first of La-La Land and Warner Bros.' commitment to a 90th anniversary series of releases. Could the Lethal Weapon scores be coming up? |

Personally, I do not think that Rosewood makes for a "fairly good" album, I think it is "excellent". I consider Rosewood to be among John Williams' stronger scores of the last twenty years, in fact, it is among my favorite John Williams scores. Finally hearing the entire score expanded on the wonderfully expanded LaLaLand release is a revelation. OK, I may be in the minority here, but I consider this a very strong entry into John Williams musical canon. |

I'm seconding you, it's a powerful dramatic score and the first CD of Lalaland's set clearly proves it. "Revelation" is the word. |

Am I being a bad JW fan when I say that I strongly prefer the wonderful new film score presentation of Rosewood over the album release? As presented on the first CD of the LaLa release, the score flows quite naturally and brims with powerful and moving ideas to a truly monumental climax. The album presentation, while I am sure it is true to Mr Williams's own conception of his piece, is to my ears a bit predictable and almost pandering, even distracting, in its inclusion of the gospel choral works (impeccably composed and arranged though they are by JW himself). The songs just seemed a bit on the nose, wholly appropriate though they might be to the film and its subject. |
