So, I'm in the market for a new sound system. Want to keep the budget low, maybe $500. I'm not sure if I want to go with a midi system or separates. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Bose in general tends to be pretty universally reviled among audiophiles. |

I'll echo what Josh stated and recommend a pair of inexpensive floorstanding speakers like the ones he posted, and a decent receiver to go along with it. You'll get a very respectable and full sound on the cheap. Since cheaper speakers are usually not the best in producing tight, controlled low frequencies, you might want a receiver that has a subwoofer output with crossover controls as a decent subwoofer may be a good addition later on. |

In my opinion, the Bose is still a pretty good option if you have it close to your listening area - I have mine right next to my recliner and I think it sounds just wonderful from where I'm seated - I agree that it does not do room-filling sound, however, if one puts it near the listening position, I still think it is a pretty good way to go if you want a compact, easy to use audio system... ![]() IMHO... |
