Volunteers is the only Horner score release left that I am fervently waiting for, and we know that Intrada has been searching for the required elements.

My personal "Holy Grail" regarding an expanded score presentation is NOT 'The Rocketeer', or 'Titanic', or any of the obvious titles.

Nope.

It's "The Perfect Storm".

There's an entire album worth of unreleased music within the film that at times was better than the already fantastic material that did make the original soundtrack.

It'll never happen in this century or any other, of course. Many have felt the album was long enough and indeed it is a fine album but the remaining unreleased music heard in the film is just so damned good.

Meanwhile every week sees a Goldsmith release and it's been that way for a good long while. I do see where you're coming from. It's not like there's a big Elfman-styled box coming.

I really want Deadly Blessing. The Love Theme is one of the most beautiful pieces of score Horner has ever written.

James Horner on album and James Horner in film, is a whole different experience. And I think it should stay that way. James Horner's albums are not just collages of what you can hear in the movie from beginning to end. It's a very refined well thought musical journey put on CD.

If there was only one movie that'd deserve more than one CD though, it's Avatar. Its richness won't be completely represented on a single CD. It wouldn't have to be complete, but at least more representative of all the different music you can experience in the picture.

Oh, and I love A Far Off Place. One of my most beloved Horner.

I sympathize with your wanting definitive editions of things like Goldsmith always gets, but I think it's Horner himself who's preventing that a lot of the time. Obviously he gave his blessing to the complete In Country being released, but I really wish Intrada had had their "Album + Extras" program in place back when they were putting out his Disney scores like Something Wicked This Way Comes so that those could have been complete and definitive as well -- it was Horner himself who chose to go with an album arrangement on those instead of the complete score, so I don't really think you have cause to say he's neglected.

When a label doesn't work with him directly (ie. FSM for the complete Trek scores, or LLL for Jade) we do get a complete score, if I'm not mistaken. But Intrada has a closer relationship with him.

The movie isn't made by James Horner. That's why sometimes the film score in its complete and chronological form is not what James Horner structured and intented from the beginning, including in movies like Titanic.
Take the music from The New World (as heard in the movie) and put it on CD. What a mess ! Take the album produced by James Horner : a masterpiece.

I'm still pining for I Love You To Death. Such a charismatic score for such an offbeat film.
