Likely I am in a huge minority on this one but I completely fell in love with a somewhat obscure Rosenman score "Keeper of the City" performed by the Utah Symphony Orchestra. This is another side of Leonard that is not talked about. He can actually be quite thematic. This score has not one but two themes. One is religious in nature sung in Latin (pretty sure) by a female group, and the other is a great city theme depicting its size, beauty, and darker side. It really is a great theme and the first track "Church" has been included on a compilation album of obscure films with great music. This is a case where I have never seen the film so maybe I shouldn't say obscure but not as well known. It starred Lou Gossett. Whether or not it is still available would have to be answered by Roger or Douglass as it was released on their label Intrada but it has been 15 years. The catalog number for anyone that is interested is MAF 7024D. I would consider this a cool little treasure in my collection. Tom ![]() |

Like some others in this thread, Rosenman doesn't do much for me.... he's like the older generation James Horner. If you've got one of his "epic" scores, say Lord of the Rings, you pretty much have them all. I could still be impressed though, as there's many scores I haven't heard by him yet.... I retain an open mind, but from what I've heard in 25+ years, I don't hold much hope for it. It's interesting that a few here are asking for The Car and Prophecy to be released, which just proves that we will not be happy until EVERYTHING has been officially issued on CD. I have Prophecy on a full score boot-- I've listened to it maybe three times in two years. The Car, as many I'm sure know, is based primarily on the Dies Irae, with some "car horn" thrown in for good measure. Both of these films have great nostalgia for me (I saw both of them in the theater), but as score CD's I can only see them gathering dust on my shelf. I would much sooner just watch the films again. Cross Creek I would consider though-- real nice music for a small Americana tale.... pretty short score though, isn't it? Kongonimator np: nothing at the moment |
