Hi John, Welcome!

Is Curse of the Crimson Altar also known as The Crimson Cult? One of Boris Karloff's last films, plus a small appearance of Chris Lee? And.... I assume this Peter Knight is the same Peter Knight who conducted the famous Days of Future Past album by The Moody Blues?

Blood on Satan's Claw.... I had forgotten about that twisted film, which, along with Witchfinder General (aka The Conqueror Worm), The Bloody Judge, Cry of the Banshee, and The Devils, forms a nice (and brutal) quintet of "witchhunt" films. Incidently, everyone knows about the Terry Gilliam animated titles on Banshee, right?

John, I didn't really follow what you said about Witchfinder being on an LP, coupled with Crimson Altar.... could you clarify this?

the one, the only, the 7th wonder of the world.... and famous too... kongologist

Hmmm.... I guess John M is not going to be replying anytime soon, so...

Does anybody else know what he was referring to re: an LP (?) with Witchfinder General and Curse of the Crimson Altar?

Since I started this thread I have had the opportunity to hear the Silva CD HORROR!, which has a small suite of Witchfinder, as well as a tentet of other scores from the late 1950's-60's. It's a great listen, but I was fairly shocked at the brevity of it.... it's only about 45 minutes, or the length of an LP!

Paul Ferris contributed a neat score for Michael Reaves' The Sorcerors too, as well as for The Blood Beast Terror. And he actually appears in Witchfinder- as the bereaved husband of one of the burned "witches".

Waiting for the DVD or CD, or both....

Dear Mr. Kongologist.

I recently had the opportunity to hear both scores from Cry of the Banshee. And I must confess I was wrong. : Joseph´s score is indeed suited to the picture than Baxter´s. It´s not a great work of art, but it suited the film well.

Easy answer. Wolfen by James Horner. Still one of the most exciting scores by Horner. I remember how exciting and fresh Horner's musical voice in this film was back then. (And I also remember how jaw dropping it was when he just recycled his music for the mysterious "Wolfen" for Khan in Star Trek II. :o )
