INTRADA Announces: HUSH Composed by CHRISTOPHER YOUNG INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 221 An undeniable highlight of TriStar's 1998 film Hush is its romantic/thriller score by Christopher Young. The composer was already considered a master at suspense and had most recently scored several films in this vein immediately before. A lullaby opens the score in music box fashion, featuring gentle harp outline before blossoming into a lush, string-led statement of the theme before transforming into the score's love theme and anchor -- a career highlight for Young. The action moments in the film are scored with an energetic, thrilling theme in which punchy, syncopated notes chase downward spiraling strings. The score is a well-rounded mix of traditional romance, suspense, and action and ranks as one of Young's finest scores for this genre. For this release, Intrada had access to the digital masters and Christopher Young crafted the order and flow of this album, each track (with titles inspired by words of the central lullaby) advancing roughly in film order to create a dramatic listening experience. In the film, the trouble begins when Jackson (Johnathon Schaech) brings his beautiful girlfriend Helen (Gwyneth Paltrow) home to the family farm to meet Martha, aka Ma (Jessica Lange). When a late-night intruder attacks Helen, the young couple decides to move in with Martha. Things go smoothly until Helen notices strange little signs -- warnings of Martha’s sugarcoated manipulation. Ignorant of the truth about his father’s death and oblivious to his mother’s derangement, Jackson allows himself to be distanced from his wife—and in his absence Helen discovers the full extent of Martha’s madness. INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 221 Retail Price: $19.99 Available Now For track listing and sound samples, please visit http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.7848/.f |

This release will likely elicit the smallest response, but this is nothing short of a shining example of the excellent year 1998 was for Young's scores. |

I really hope people respond to this score. Christopher Young turned in a great one for this movie. The movie itself has it's moments, but the score really made the film much better. A classy and exciting score by a great composer. |

Thank you for this release! Very underrated Young score. It's a good time for Young releases (Sinister, Hellraiser, ...), please keep the trend going, many of intrada's promos can benefit from the same treatment. Good job! |

After this fantastic release, I wonder what Doug and Roger have up their sleeves? My fingers are crossed for an updated/expanded URBAN LEGEND??? Until that time... I will be playing HUSH (when it arrives) and his many other releases that Intrada has been involved in. ![]() |

Excellent. Listening to this tonight has restored my interest in Young, after a period when I was finding some recent releases of his less to my taste. This score is Young in the kind of form I like best. Well done Intrada for this one. Great sound. |

There is a lot of similarity in style between the thrillers Young has done, not saying he's copying himself over and over, but the same romantic/dreamlike quality re-appears throughout them. I really need to make a best of playlist once it arrives ![]() |

What a great CD! I'm surprised it's taken so long to have interest in this score finally surface! I love the music within the film, but the CD stands nicely! Young truly is the modern master of the suspense-thriller. ![]() And, by the way, I thanked TriStar initially, but I also wanted to include Sony for handing over the masters; perhaps they own TriStar, but I feel both deserve my gratitude. |

I watched the movie in preparation of getting to hear the expanded score. The movie is extremely borderline soap opera territory. Honestly for a thriller about a psycho mom in the late 90's, I was expecting there'd be more kills and a better pay off, as it stands the movie takes forever to get underway and when the credits roll it still feels unresolved. Young's music does wonders throughout, making some sequences work that shouldn't really. I've found many throwbacks to "Unforgettable", "Copycat", "Flowers in the Attic" and the upside of a shaky thriller is a score that gets to come in and try to fix the broken pieces. Lots of standout cues throughout. |

I wasn't really familiar with this score, but I like Chris Young and thought the samples sounded nice, so I ordered it along with Battlestar Galactica and Condorman. I'm very glad I did. The moments that may remind me a bit of other Young scores might be more of an issue for me if I didn't like the sound of those other scores, but I do, so I'm pretty happy with this record. I think that the score has more than enough distinctive elements! When listened to on its own, it is a lush, colorful experience, and I rather like the "suite" format in this case. |
