We all know composers like -especially - Horner, Williams, Goldsmith, etc., have, in their scores, composed very long pieces for certain sequences. I got to thinking... I can't recall a single piece by John Barry that is more than 5 minutes long, though as I type this, I seem to recall that there was a very long piece on the Dances With Wolves soundtrack, but maybe not. I'm not sure if the guitar piece he composed for Deadfall would count, even though it DOES serve as BOTH underscore AND source music, if memory serves me correctly. Any help would be appreciated. |

DEADFALL's "Romance for Guitar and Orchestra" definitely counts, since it was conceived as underscore despite beng composed earlier in the production process than usual. (If anyone is unaware of it, the film's DVD contains a nice featurette about this Barry cue.) Otherwise, off the top of my head the original Barry end-title cue for PLAYING BY HEART is 6:38 -- and the unused climactic cue for THE GOLDEN CHILD (subtitled "The Final Act") runs 10:23. Ah, I remembered two additional relevant cues, Terry Cloth: MOONRAKER's "Flight Into Space" (6:33) and the excellent "Better Get Him" from BODY HEAT (6:30). |
