It's not even available yet as we've still got last minute stuff to do with it... but CONAN seems anxiously awaited for by a lot of people. Yeah, we figured it would be, of course. But it's not the second coming. A lot of fantastic scores are coming our way lately. STAR TREK, BODY HEAT, THE SHADOW, whatever. All sorts of goodies. CONAN is one of the greats, yes. But I also know we have a tough crowd to please. Someone will surely mention an odd crossfade they object to and whatnot. So I humbly offer to you dear listeners the following note. I've put this one together for me as well as you. I'm rather fond of this music, too. And... I have one connection that keeps this one personal. As our first customers will recall, the Intrada label started with RED DAWN, a WWIII actioner scored by Basil and directed by John Milius shortly after they finished making CONAN together. What is lesser known is that Regina, now Intrada's production supervisor, was only five weeks old when Mary Ann and I first met Basil on the MGM scoring stage to mix our record. Yes, baby Regina was with us, of course. She charmed Basil and he carried her around in his arms, rocking her for a few moments. She fell asleep and we took pictures for our photo album. Needless to say, those pictures of Basil with my new baby daughter carry personal weight with me today. Yep. I look at Regina now, I see Basil rocking her still. ![]() --Doug (Regina's daddy.) |

That was a great story Doug... and, I even teared up. Honestly. I will always be grateful of Intrada... and the long association with the music of Basil Poledouris. I have been a customer since that very first release... a story I have told time and time again. Every year brings us more and more fantastic releases... With CONAN around the corner, hey, take your time, because this will be an event... patience is a virtue... and this is getting the Intrada treatment... this is Basil Poledouris... John Milius... Intrada! Need I say more? Richard Below... an open and a sealed original LP release of RED DAWN... 27 years ago... ![]() |

Doug Many thanks for sharing your story with us. What wonderful memories to cherish forever. Basil is truly missed but like all great composers gone before us there legacy/music lives on. With his baby now in your hands Conan will surely rock |

i am a "intradaner" from the first minute, albeit i bought the first cds from a german distributor. my first intrada cds were red dawn and island in the stream, if i remember right. in the pre-internet days, as soundtrack enthusiast were more or less hermits , i wrote a letter to Doug, thanks him for the fine releases and suggested some other titels, i love to have on the then new medium, like conan or jaws (which were not release by that time on cd) i got a nice letter from Doug by airmail, letting me known that he also like the suggested soundtracks, but that it seems not likely to get a release by intrada, due to ownership of these scores by the big lables..... how things change over the years - what a luck- and so we can wait a little longer for Dougs vision and version of Conan. i ll think i still have this letter somewhere .... Thanks for the joy you and the composers gave us over the years ... |

You've certainly done Basil proud in representing some of his most popular and powerful scores (Red Dawn, Flesh+Blood, RoboCop and White Fang) as the highly enjoyable standalone listens that they are. The two Conans are a couple more of such Poledouris scores that really needed to be brought under the best light. Maybe you'll eventually do the same for The Hunt for Red October (I just had to get that in there). |

Thank you for sharing this greatly emotional story, Doug! This brings memories to me a well. Some of my very first CDs were Intradas (Toy Soldiers, Red Dawn, Last Starfighter, Wind and the Lion, Aces: Iron Eagle III, etc)... I must have played them thousands of times. I also remember visiting Intrada when it still was on Vallejo Street in San Francisco. I met Doug and Jeff personally then and was so happy because they were so kind with me, a completely unknown guy... BTW, Doug, Intrada is still my all time favorite label! |

As long as you release great CD, as has been your pattern to date, I will purchase them. As much as some of us nitpick, bitch, moan and cause a ruckus over all sorts of things, often ridiculous, it should be obvious that your work is loved and appreciated. We're like Star Trek fans (I know, I'm one of those) in that we endlessly nitpick the things we love. |
