You can read my opinion in my blog now or on soundtrack collector. A little hint. I didn't hear any new memorable themes either. Obviously I am missing something? Or am I?

I completely agree with all this, except that Superman II, III, and at least IV were great musical sequels. IV is especially awesome. And those scores sound much more like the first 1978 episode, being part of the same film music period (end of 70's & 80's) than this very modern 2000's Ottman's score.

I think the use of these themes was at the very core of the producers' insistence that the story of "Superman" hearken back to the joys of the first film. I've heard them say as much in interviews.

Ultimately, I feel these themes evoke warm, familiar and extremely pleasant memories...memories they want to continue to have associated with the "Superman" franchise.

I have been very impressed with the dimension a few quotes of Williams have added to some key episodes of "Smallville"...and they always seemed right and dead-on to me.
