[quote="Ron Pulliam David: There are tons of films out there you will relish with superb scores. From the Fox classices series, alone, "How Green Was My Valley," "Laura", "Leave Her to Heaven" and, best of all IMO) "The Razor's Edge"....totally magnificent Newman score with one of the most beautiful love themes he's ever done.[/quote] I agree about Razor's Edge! The 1946 version certainly captures the metaphysical underpinnings Somerset Maugham highlighted in his novel, and Newman's score was brilliant. I can't argue with the others you mentioned either. Leave her to Heaven has one of the most memorable main titles Newman composed in the 40's, awe inspiring and tragic at once. When he re-emphasizes this material as Ellen spreads her father's ashes on horse back in an early New Mexico dawn as her family and Cornel Wilde watch in rapt reverence, Newman captures the depth of her tragic madness. Great stuff- There's Gold in them there films. |
